St Lucia

StLucia_Flag.png

Saint Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island nation with a pair of dramatically tapered mountains, the Pitons, on its west coast. Its coast is home to volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, luxury resorts and fishing villages. Trails in the interior rainforest lead to waterfalls like the 15m-high Toraille, which pours over a cliff into a garden. The population of the St Lucia is 182,790 with the capital being Castries.

St Lucia has a high solar potential and set a renewable energy mix target of 35% by 2020. Presently St Lucia energy mix is comprised of just 1% renewable energy on the public grid. Its electrical demand peaks at 61MW and its electricity prices are high relative to the rest of the Caribbean.

Solar energy generation presents an opportunity to achieve St Lucia’s energy goals, lower the cost of electricity, reduce its carbon footprint and reduce its annual dependence on about 84,807,000 liters of imported diesel for electricity alone.
